Getting started with the Kiosk

Turn your iPad into a customized kiosk in a few simple steps and learn how to use it's powerful features.

What do I need?

Short answer - An iPad running iPadOS 14 and above.


How do I enter Kiosk mode?

Inside the OneTap iPad check-in app, find the grid icon at the top and tap this icon outlined in red below.

How do I use OneTap KIOSK for self-check-ins?

Attendees can check in using their name or their own QR/Barcode that you can send them.

  1. Type in your name/List of Names

  2. QR codes and barcodes

  3. Check-in codes

List of Names/Type in your name

Attendees can select from the list of names, or search for their name using the search bar. The search bar will start suggesting names, as soon as you start typing.

If the profile is not registered on a list, the attendees will have a chance to register for a list. The registrations can be turned off by the Admin from KIOSK settings.

If you don't want attendees to see everyone on the page, select "Searched" under KIOSK settings

QR/Barcode Pass

Unique QR/Barcode (like an ID card)

Attendees can check in using their passes by scanning them using the KIOSK scanner

Check-in Code

Assign a unique custom code to an attendee, and the attendee types in this code to check in.

Once you've assigned custom check-in codes to profiles, you can enable check-in via check-in codes under the KIOSK settings

Check-in to multiple lists

If the KIOSK is set to > Attendees choose a list

They can check into multiple lists after selecting their name.

Check-in to a single list

The Admin can pin the KIOSK to a single list

This way, attendees will only be able to check in to one list selected by the Admin.


How do new registrations work?

If a profile does not exist or is not on the list, then a profile will be created for them when they tap "Register". If you do not want new registrations, then you can change the settings by tapping the gear in the top right, selecting "Customization", and toggling the "Allow registration" section (as seen in the image below).

KIOSK Customizations

To customize the Kiosk, tap the settings gear (enter pin code if this is set up), and select "Customization". Then you will see the screen in the image below.

KIOSK Settings

To access KIOSK settings, tap the gear icon (enter pin code if this is set up), and select "Change Settings". Then you will see the screen in the image below.

  1. Check-in option

    Use the list of names or check-in code to check-in.

  2. Hide QR Scanner

    Choose to hide the QR scanner if the scanner is not required for check-ins

  3. Connect to List

    Pin the KIOSK to a list, or let visitors choose a list they wish to check-in to

  4. Visible Profiles

    Choose which profiles should be shown in the list of profiles

  5. Allow Registrations

    Choose if the registrations should be available or not.

  6. Allow Self check-ins

    Show visitors instructions to check in using the public list QR code and text to check-in

  7. Security Pin

    Add a 4-digit pin to restrict access to behind-the-desk mode.

  8. Disable Auto Sleep

    Prevents the iPad from falling asleep during check-ins.


How can I keep my Kiosk secure?Β 

Pin Code

Use a pin code to keep anyone from changing your settings or viewing your guests.

From the Kiosk, tap the settings gear and select "Customize". Scroll down until you see "Kiosk PIN" underneath "Security Settings", then set your 4-digit pin code. Be sure to remember this because it will lock you out!
